The World's Largest "Yellow Brick Road"
SEDAN, KS – For over 100 years, Kansas has been associated with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Sedan leaders have cleverly capitalized on that by encircling their town with a “Yellow Brick Road” paved with more than 11,000 yellow bricks inscribed with generous donors’ names on them. The idea evolved in 1988 from a committee formed to Save Our Sedan (SOS) in conjunction with the City Council, merchants, and the general public. Their goal is to raise money and donate much needed apparatus for the firefighters of Sedan City Fire Department.
Every state in the United States is represented at least once, and 28 foreign countries are represented. Bricks have been purchased by individuals, organizations, and schools. Celebrities including Bob Hope, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Whoopi Goldberg, Boxcar Willie and Liz Taylor all have bricks named in their honor. There is a special section for veterans with several hundred names in it.

Our Goal
Our goal is to help Sedan raise money and donate much needed apparatus for the firefighters of Sedan City Fire Department, noting that the cost to outfit a firefighter in protective gear and breathing apparatus exceeds $6,000. Located in one of the poorest counties in Kansas, the Sedan fire department’s annual $8,000 budget doesn’t put a dent in the needs of the volunteer roster of 11 firefighters.
